Lockmark: Private Bookmarks ("the App") is a Safari Web Extension and companion app for macOS and iOS. This policy explains what data the App handles and how it is stored.
What we collect
Lockmark: Private Bookmarks does not operate a backend server and does not collect, transmit, or sell your data to any third party. We do not run analytics or advertising SDKs inside the App.
The only data the App creates is the data you enter yourself:
- Bookmark titles, URLs, and categories you save
- The password you set to unlock the App and extension popup
Where your data lives
Your bookmarks are stored locally on your device and, if you enable sync, in your own iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit — the same private storage used by Apple's own apps. Nobody at Lockmark: Private Bookmarks, and no server we operate, ever receives a copy of your bookmarks.
Important: bookmark data is stored in plaintext, not end-to-end encrypted, so that iCloud can sync it between your own devices. Your password gates access to the App and extension — it does not encrypt the bookmark data itself. Anyone who could already read your iCloud account's private CloudKit data (for example, through your Apple ID credentials) could access it independently of the App's password.
Password storage
Your unlock password is stored locally on-device and is used only to gate the App's and extension's interface. It is never transmitted anywhere. If you forget it, resetting it clears the existing bookmark data on that device, since there is no account-recovery system to verify your identity against.
In-app purchases
Pro access is sold as a non-renewing in-app purchase and processed entirely by Apple's App Store / StoreKit. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made so the App can unlock Pro features, but payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.) are handled by Apple and never reach us. See Apple's own privacy policy for how the App Store processes payments.
Permissions
The Safari extension requests access to the pages you choose to bookmark so it can save the page's title and URL. It does not read or transmit page content beyond what's needed to create a bookmark.
Children's privacy
Lockmark: Private Bookmarks is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them, as it collects no data from anyone.
