Getting started

How do I set up Lockmark: Private Bookmarks for the first time?
  1. Open the Lockmark: Private Bookmarks app on your Mac or iPhone.
  2. On the Home tab, follow the prompt to enable the Safari extension (macOS: opens Safari Settings → Extensions; iOS: opens the Settings app).
  3. The first time you open the app or the toolbar popup, you'll be asked to set an unlock password — this is created once and used on all your synced devices.
  4. Once unlocked, use "Add Current Page" in the toolbar popup or the app's My Bookmarks tab to save your first bookmark.
Do I need an account to use the app?

No. There's no Lockmark: Private Bookmarks account to create. The app runs locally and uses your existing Apple ID / iCloud account only for sync.

Safari extension

The toolbar button isn't showing up in Safari

On macOS, go to Safari → Settings → Extensions and make sure Lockmark: Private Bookmarks is checked. You may also need to pin it to the toolbar from Safari's toolbar customization menu. On iOS, open Settings → Safari → Extensions and enable it there.

How do I save the page I'm currently viewing?

Click the Lockmark: Private Bookmarks icon in the Safari toolbar, unlock with your password if prompted, and use "Add Current Page." The page's title and URL are saved to whichever category you choose.

iCloud sync

How does sync work between my Mac and iPhone?

Bookmarks sync through your own iCloud account (via Apple's CloudKit), the same way Apple's own apps sync your data. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID and have iCloud enabled on both devices.

My bookmarks aren't syncing between devices

Confirm both devices are signed into the same Apple ID, have an active internet connection, and that iCloud Drive isn't disabled system-wide. Sync can take a short time after you add or edit a bookmark — reopen the app to force a refresh.

Pro & purchases

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Free lets you save, edit, categorize, and sync an unlimited number of bookmarks, but shows only 5 at a time. Pro removes that viewing limit so your entire list is visible on both the app and the extension.

How much does Pro cost, and does it auto-renew?

Pro is a one-time, non-renewing purchase: $0.99 unlocks full access for one month, and $4.99 unlocks it for twelve months. Neither renews automatically — when it expires, you'll drop back to the Free view limit until you purchase again.

I reinstalled the app / got a new device — how do I get Pro back?

Open the Upgrade tab and tap "Restore Purchase." If your Pro pass is still within its active period, it will be reapplied without charging you again.

Password & security

I forgot my password — how do I get back in?

Use "Reset Password" from the lock screen. Because there's no account system to verify your identity, resetting clears the existing bookmark data on that device rather than recovering it — so treat this as a last resort.

Is my bookmark data encrypted?

Your password locks access to the app and extension interface, but bookmark data itself is stored in plaintext so it can sync via iCloud. See our Privacy Policy for the full explanation.
